HSDC, KSA to boycott R-Day celebration, security beefed up

HOWRAGHAT, Jan 25: The Hill State Demand Committee (HSDC) and Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) have decided not to join the 68th Republic Day celebration. Both the regiol political parties HSDC and KSA on Thursday held a press meet and announced that they would not take part in the Republic Day celebration due to non-fulfilment of demands of the two hill districts, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. Though people of the two hill districts have been demanding implementation of Article 244 (A) since last several decades, no positive response has been received from the government till today, the HSDC and KSA leaders said.

Sans fulfilment of the demands of people of the two hill districts, the 68th Republic Day acceleration is incomplete, the HSDC and KSA leaders said. While briefing the media persons, both the organization demanded the government to start a tripartite talk for the implementation of Article 244 (A). Besides, the leaders expressed disappointment over the role played by KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang, EMs and MACs, KAAC in case of demand for implementation of Article 244 (A).

Meanwhile, the leaders of HSDC and KSA said that they should also desist from participating in the Republic Day celebration for the interest of the hills people. Meanwhile, keeping an aim to celebrate Republic Day peacefully in Karbi Anglong, the district administration and security agencies have arranged substantial security measures across the district. Police and security forces are keeping a close watch round-the-clock to prevent any untoward incident during the celebration of Republic Day. Police have been doing random checking in Diphu in the area of FCI godown and SBI branches of Diphu town. According to report, tight security measures have been ensured in every small town in the district.
