SHILLONG, Nov 28: Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) members in Shella constituency are unhappy at the pre-poll alliance with the United Democratic Party (UDP) and so they have shifted their allegiance to the People's Democratic Party (PDF). Leston Wanswet, PDF candidate from Shella constituency, while speaking at the function to welcome the members of the HSPDP into the party's fold said that as a party which is still in its scent stage it was ready to embrace like-minded people and work together to achieve victory.
"When you have come and joined the party it means now you are PDF members," Wanswet said.
It may be mentioned that Wanswet contested the 2013 Assembly polls as an independent candidate but lost to the leader of the Opposition and UDP president, Dr Donkupar Roy by 355 votes. Coincidentally, when he contested as an independent candidate in 2013 he was allotted the symbol of 'candle' and this time also the PDF's symbol is 'candle'.
Among those who quit the HSPDP and joined the PDF were Sparkle Star Wann, Mulla A Sangma, Nipin Roi Byodo, Trikant Marak, Baldwin Kharsyntiew, Ricaldo Malngiang, Pynshngain Nongkynrih, Sankharwon Kharbamon and Estone Jitem.
"We decided to leave the HSPDP since we do not want to work with the UDP," Sparkle Star Wann said.
