HSLC scripts fiasco: AIDSO stages protest against SEBA

Special correspondent

SILCHAR, March 6: The All India Democratic Students’ Organization (AIDSO), Cachar district committee, has expressed its serious concern at the unprecedented incident of burning of HSLC answer scripts in Jorhat. AIDSO workers brought out a protest rally here and staged demonstration against the indifferent attitude of SEBA in conducting examitions and taking adequate measures for safe and secure upkeep of answer scripts.

In their protest rally before the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar on Saturday, slogans were raised against SEBA higher ups and the education department. After the rally, Gour Chandra Das, district organizing secretary, addressing the gathering said, “There are many loopholes in the system in SEBA. In 2012, when Himanta Biswa Sarma was the education minister, the question papers of HSLC examitions were chewed up by the stray cow. It was then assured by the state government that nothing of the sort would happen again. Neither the state government nor the SEBA has learnt anything from the past and the burning of answer scripts is a testimony to it.

Das demanded a high level inquiry into the incident. He also insisted before taking any decision in regard to the fate of the candidates whose answer scripts have been burnt, the educationists, intellectuals as well as the representatives of students and teachers and different organizations should be taken into confidence. AIDSO has stressed on ensuring the safety of all the answer scripts now lying in different centres of the state. In the protest rally were present Swagata Bhattacharjee, district committee president, Prasanta Bhattacharjee, vice-president and Sabir Ahmed Mazarbhuiya among others.
