HSLC students with letter marks in Assamese feted, book released

DOOMDOOMA, June 14:  Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samity,  Doomdooma Branch felicitated five students belonging to its members’ family for  securing letter marks in Assamese in the 2015 HSLC examition as an incentive for enhancing their inclition for learning their mother-tongue Assamese properly.

These students are Sangsthita Barua,  Samiran Bardoloi,  Surajit Chaudhury,  Sukanya Moran and Satabdi Dutta. The meeting which was held at  Rupaisiding with Usha Rajkumari Gogoi as president. It was addressed by jourlist and vice-president of  Assam Science Writers Association, Dhiren Deka, retired Vice-Principal of Doomdooma College, Benu Bora, retired Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science, Chandra Handique, Vice-Principal, Doomdooma College, Bi Devi Bordoloi and writer and litterateur Sarat Ch Siring Phukan.

The students expressed their determition to uphold the dignity of their mother-tongue even by pursuing further studies of the language on their own. After the conclusion of the felicitation ceremony, poet and writer, Manjul Sarmah released the book Jatra which is a collection of 10 translated short-stories – one from English and the rest from Bengali – written by Usha Rajkumari Gogoi who is the present president of Lekhika  Samaroh Samity, Doomdooma branch, and is retired Professor and Head of the English  Department, Doomdooma College.
