HSPDP leader is CM's 'agent': NPP chief

From a Reporter

SHILLONG, Jan 28: Veteran politician and tiol People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Nongkrem constituency HS Shylla on Saturday alleged that the leader of Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) Ardent M Basaiawmoit is an ‘agent’ of Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

Speaking to The Sentinel on the sidelines of an NPP function held at Pynursla, Shylla claimed that the guards at the official residence of the Chief Minister had told him that both leaders of the HSPDP and the United Democratic Party (UPD) Ardent M Basaiawmoit and Dr. Donkupar Roy respectively would visit the CM at his residence after 11pm.

Pointing to the regiol party alliance, Shylla said the alliance between the HSPDP and UDP materialized only because of the selfish needs of the two presidents, Ardent Basaiawmoit from Nongkrem and Dr. Donkupar Roy from Shella. “These two leaders do not have any other altertives in their respective constituencies. Hence they have decided to form an alliance,” he said.

Shylla further stated that the decision of Basaiawmoit to resign as an MDC only shows that he does not know anything about the rules and regulation.

Exuding confidence, Shylla said that in the upcoming elections the NPP will garner 15 seats in the Garo hills, five in the Jaintia Hills and eight seats in Khasi Hills totaling 28 seats from across the State.“I’m confident that the NPP will gain additiol 30 seats in the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills,” he said.

Shylla also claimed that the party to win the most number of seats will be the NPP and not the Congress, UDP or HSPDP. “I am sure that the NPP will form the next Government in Meghalaya and all other political parties like the UDP, HSPDP and PDF will ultimately have to join the NPP,” said Shylla.
