HSPDP to attend crucial meeting

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, July 31: The two opposition Members of District Council (MDCs) from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will attend the meeting convened by the ruling People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Monday.

It may be mentioned that the KHADC, Chief Executive Member (CEM), Pynshngain N Syiem had to convene the meeting after opposition from anti-uranium mining groups over issuance of NOC for the Nongstoin-Wahkaji road project. It may be mentioned that on Thursday last the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) stormed the office of the KHADC and in the melee miscreants vandalized the office of the CEM and the Council’s Secretary.

Apart from the two opposition MDCs the PDF had also invited groups who are against and for the road projects.

Those opposed to the two-laning road projects alleged that these are mere enticement to facilitate uranium mining in the West and South West Khasi Hills district.

These projects will be taken up under SARDP-NE in West and South West Khasi districts.
