From A Reporter

SHILLONG, Jan 19: The Hynniewtrep Students Union (HSU), Central Body, has set a three months deadline for the state government to set up the new Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Block at mdong village in West Jaintia Hills (WJH) district, even as it sough clarification from the government over delay in setting up the new C&RD Block.

The Union has also demanded that the state government should clarify on the status of its proposal.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, HSU president Kyrshan Rymbai said, “We have placed our demand in front of the government to immediately start construction work on the mdong C&RD Block as the government had in 2013 proposed to set up the Block as a division of Thadlaskein C&RD Block, however till date we fail to see any development in this matter.”

He said the Thadlaskein C&RD Block is over burdened as there are many villages which fall under it and the construct of a new C&RD Block at mdong will become a blessing for the people of the region.

The Union has also decided to write a letter to the Ministry of Rural Development government of India to intervene if the state government fails to realize their demand.

The Union has also urged C&RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to raise the issue concerned on the floor of the house at the next Meghalaya assembly session.
