Huge amount of cash seized by flying squads and police teams

Itanagar: With the model code of conduct being enforced in Arunachal Pradesh after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced simultaneous Parliamentary and Assembly polls in the State, the flying squads and police teams have seized huge amount of cash to the tune of over 28 lakh in the past two days. While in the State capital, police and flying squads alone seized an amount of 15.6 lakh from various checkpoints at Naharlagun, Itanagar and Nirjuli, in East Siang district, an amount of Rs 10.72 lakh has been seized from various places, police sources informed here on Thursday.

Police and flying squad teams also seized an amount of Rs 1.8 lakh at Seppa, the headquarters of East Kameng district.

Capital SP Tumme Amo informed that police also seized eight rifles/guns, 15 live rounds of ammunition and 20 local machetes (doas) in the State capital.

“The seized arms and ammunition were deposited at the police station,” Amo said adding, many posters and banners defacing the town and public properties were also removed by police.

Arunachal Pradesh has been identified as ‘highly expenditure sensitive’ State.
