Huge revenue collection as fine by traffic police

SHILLONG, April 12: The Superintendent of Police (Traffic) East Khasi Hills, BJ Laloo on Thursday informed that an amount of Rs 6, 65, 450 was realized as fine by the Shillong Traffic in March 2018 as compared to Rs 5, 17, 660 in February this year from violators of the provisions of the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act.

The SP informed that around 461 were fined for wrong parking, 396 for driving without seatbelt, 288 without driving license, 36 for permit violation, 49 for driving without helmet in addition to the other offences under the MV act.

Meanwhile, the police have instructed all workshops, proprietors to stop carrying on their work on public roads and streets and thoroughfares and also requested all vehicles owners to get modified exhaust silencers repaired which emit loud sounds and also to get the LED lights removed, unless they are factory-fitted from the company or manufactures. “Violators are liable to be prosecuted under section 102 Meghalaya Police Act where the fine is Rs. 5000, if convicted by the court of law,” he said.

The SP informed that in the coming days the traffic police shall be conducting random checking and violators shall be dealt with strictly.
