Mangaldai, May 8: In a significant crackdown against the inter-State illicit human trafficking racket operating in the State, the police from Shyamour Police Station in Darrang district recently managed to bust such a notorious racket active in the State capital, Guwahati.

In two separate successful operations carried out in Juripar and Beharbari area, both under the Dispur police station, two minor girls were rescued while four members, including two women of the gang, were apprehended.

The accused have been identified by police as Jabed Ali of No.4 Shyampur village in Darrang  and his wife Rabiya Khatun, Imran Hussain and Anjuma Begum of Barpeta. However, few of their accomplices managed to escape from police dragnet. During interrogation, the accused admitted before police that their inter-State human trafficking racket was being operated from Dispur area itself. The Shyampur police started investigation following complaints of two minor girls gone missing from the no.4 Shyampur village on April 30.

According to police, agents are engaged to target minor girls from weak financial background and to gain their confidence through some false promises of marriages or jobs. The police produced the arrested accused before the court and court remanded them to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the matter of Dispur turning to be the hub of illicit human trafficking has raised everyone’s eyebrow.
