JOYSAGAR: As many as eight minor girls were rescued by the Sapekhati Police with the help of Brihattar Asomiya Yuba Mancha (BAYM) activists of the Sapekhati unit on Monday. Following tip-off from locals, the BAYM activists called the local police and they jointly searched a train.

Human traffickers were trying to smuggle minor girls but were nabbed near Bhojo Railway Station. Sources informed that all the girls belong to poor tea garden labour families and they were lured by the traffickers with promises of good jobs and education in other States.

The traffickers were able to flee from the railway station and the rescued girls were handed over to their parents after medical treatment, sources informed.
