HYC demands apology from IGP

A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Nov 9: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Central Body today sought an apology from Inspector General of Police (IGP), GHP Raju, for alleging that members of HYC who were under the influence of alcohol instigated the violence soon after the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri u Hynñiewtrep (SKNSKBH) announced their decision at Civil Hospital junction on November 5. The HYC has also condemned the allegations.

“The thing which puzzles me is how the police were able to identify only members of HYC during a Rally which is being attended by thousands of people,” president of HYC Peter Lawai questioned while speaking with media persons.

According to him, if the police had clearly identified the people who were involved in instating the violence as HYC members then the police should have arrested them on that very day.

“How can police draw a conclusion without making any arrest or medical reports,” he further questioned. Lawai stated that if the police have proof that members of the HYC were involved and under the influences of alcohol then the Deputy Commissioner (DC) should have filed an FIR against the Exercise department including the Police department for failing to check the sale of liquor since it was a dry day.

“We will not take any responsibility for the actions committed by the people involved in such and act and the police can make their arrest, however they cannot blame the organization since most of the people attended the rally to represent their respective Dorbar,” he added.
