HYC threatens to shut all fair price shops

SHILLONG, Jan 23: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Nongthymmai Circle on Monday threatened to close down all fair price shops at Madanryting, if the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills (EKH) PS Dkhar, fails to rectify the anomalies concerning ration cards.

The Council had demanded the inclusion of deserving tribal beneficiaries in the tiol Food Security Act (NFSA) list.

In a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner at his office chamber today, the Council leaders has also demanded the immediate inclusion of tribal people in the list for ration card under (tiol Food Security Act) NFSA.

The Council has further alleged that in the ration card list around 90 percent are non-tribal’s.

In this connection, HYC general secretary Nongthymmai Circle Enlang Sawian said, “We demand that the Deputy Commissioner should conduct a review on the list and delete the mes of those non-tribal’s without proper documents from the list and we demand the district administration to rectify the anomaly and ensure the deserving beneficiaries are included in the list within one month.”

He however informed that the Deputy Commissioner has assured them that necessary steps on the issue will be taken.

The Council has further alleged there is possibility of manipulation by politicians to boost their vote bank politics.
