‘I have no intention to contest 2018 Assembly polls’

SHILLONG, March 26: Anthony Nongbri, Joint Secretary of United Democratic Party (UDP), Shillong City has announced that he has zero intention to contest in the upcoming 2018 Assembly polls.
The announcement by Nongbri is to inform the people residing in East Shillong Constituency.
Speaking to reporters, Nongbri said, “I want to immediately clarify on this matter since rumours of my candidature for the MLA elections in 2018 had gone viral. I have no intention to contest as I respect Bindo M Lanong who will be contesting the 2018 polls.”
“I respect the voice of the people, however I want to make things clear that I will not be able to contest the 2018 polls against Bindo M Lanong as I respect him as my own father, friend and co-worker within the UDP party,” Nongbri said.
It may be noted that Nongbri had contested the MDC elections in 2014 from Laitumkhrah constituency.
Nongbri further urged other regiol parties to unite and come up with one single candidate with an intention to defeat the Congress party in Laitumkhrah constituency.
