I will defeat Chaudhuri by 15,000 votes: Sanbor

From a reporter

SHILLONG, Feb 6: Exuding confidence, former Meghalaya Deputy Speaker and Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) candidate for South Shillong constituency Sanbor Shullai has claimed he will defeat Congress candidate Mas Chaudhuri by more than 15, 000 votes.

Shullai made the claim on Tuesday after filing his nomition papers at the Deputy Commissioner Office in East Khasi Hills district.

Speaking to reporters after filing his papers, Shullai said, "I will defeat Mas by more than 15, 000 votes. He misused his newspaper during the 2013 elections. However, everything was defeated by the people of the constituency."

He further said the people will give a fitting reply in the coming polls and ultimately will lead to Chaudhuri's retirement from politics.

Shullai said the party high command from Delhi has conducted a survey and decided that Chaudhuri cannot be given a party ticket.

When asked on his confidence of winning the election after changing party from the NCP to the BJP, he said, "I've been winning elections and this time also I will win the polls. I've contested from different parties but I still continue to win elections."

He justified that his decision to leave the NCP by saying there was no future in the party and this prompted him to join the BJP.

"The NCP is losing popularity. However, it is popular in only a few pockets of different States. Moreover, if the tiol president of the party Sharad Pawar resigns from the party, it will completely vanish," he said. He said his decision to join the BJP was made after taking the views of his supporters. "After looking into different aspects, we decided to join a strong party like the BJP which will benefit the people of the constituency and the State as a whole," he said.
