IAY scam: Three gaon panchayat officials arrested

GOLAGHAT/Dhekial, June 17: The Golaghat Police on Saturday arrested as many as three Gaon panchayat officials for alleged involvement in corruption in allotment of IAY houses in in the years 2012-13 and 2013-14.According to police sources, Balijan Gaon panchayat secretary jia Chulta, Anchalik Panchayat member gen Bora and ward member of the gaon panchayat, Hafija Khatoon have been arrested by the police. Sources also said that serious anomalies had been detected in implementation of Indira Awas Yoj (IAY). The three officials allegedly allotted houses under IAY to bogus beneficiaries. In this regard a section of deprived beneficiaries lodged case against the officials in Ghiladhari Police outpost  for manipulating the actual beneficiaries’ mes. Three cases were registered against the Gaon Panchayat officials and police investigated the matter. During investigation, police found various anomalies and the officials involved in corruption deprived the poor beneficiaries of the Gaon Panchayat from receiving IAY houses.  On Saturday, the police arrested the accused officials and produced them before the Golaghat Judicial Court. The court remanded the Gaon Panchayat officials to judicial custody.
