ICAR scientists demand Seventh Pay Commission

From our Staff Correspondent

Shillong, March 2: Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Scientists of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) held a silent protest for being deprived of their  salary and other emoluments  as per the Seventh Pay Commission. They are also demanding  free working ambience without any administrative and bureaucratic hurdles. A memo in this context has been submitted to the Director, ICAR.

It stated, “Most of the Central Government workforce of the tion, including scientific organizations, have been drawing their revised salary and emoluments as per the Seventh Pay Commission for more than a year. Though the recommendation of UGC pay review committee were accepted by the Government long back, the ICAR scientists are yet to realize the benefits of the same.”

The scientists have further said that the long-standing demand of five working days a week that enjoys support of majority of ICAR scientists and research magers, has been turned down in the ICAR Governing Body meeting, reflecting insensitivity towards genuine needs of scientific communities.

It is interesting to note that, revised pay is being paid to all the staff of ICAR except the scientists for the last one year. It is in this backdrop that the scientists of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, observed a silent protest without hampering the routine work in conjunction with scientists of ICAR across the country.
