Itagar, May 31: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) on Wednesday announced limited time fee waiver scheme for the students of North Eastern states under company secretaries’ foundation and executive programme.
The institute, a premier professiol body under the jurisdiction of the union ministry of Corporate Affairs, is launching the scheme which would end on March 31 2018.
Under the scheme ‘Swavlamban-Samagra Shiksha, Samagra Vikas’, the students from the region could do free registration starting June 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018 for any of the programme in which the entire course fee would be waived, institute president Shyam Agrawal told a press conference at Aruchal Press Club (APC) here.
“In line with the policy of the Centre for inclusive growth of all parts of the country, the institute has formulated a limited time fee waiver scheme for the students if the eight NE states,” Agrawal disclosed.
He said the waiver would provide a window of opportunity to the youth of the region to come to the mainstream with the Centre already making conscious efforts in improving the infrastructure.
“Through this proactive move, the institute is expecting to empower the students of the region,” he added.
Agrawal said that the representation of students from North East in the institute is very low and if the enrolment number increased, the institute would set up an examition centre in the state.
“We are also launching career awareness programme in various schools and colleges in the state,” he added. Institute vice president Makarand M Lele informed that the institute with its vision to be a global leader in promoting good corporate governce had been playing a catalytic role in promoting governce and creating awareness on various critical issues related to corporate governce in the country.
“Students are the most cherished resource of the country as they will be taking up the mantle,” Lele said. The institute, being a pro-active body, focuses on best quality education to students of company secretaries’ course and has over 50,000 members and over four lakh students on its roll.
The institute has an examition centre in Guwahti with eight study centres in the region. In Aruchal Pradesh, the institute has set up a study centre at Rajiv Gandhi University under the commerce department where, students could go for their queries.
There is no cut off mark for admission into the courses offered by the institute and students studying in any stream could apply.
Meanwhile, the institute is all set to host a tiol semir for the first time in North East at Shillong on June 24 and 25 next.
