ID weightlifting from Oct 16

GUWAHATI, Oct 14: The 44th Assam State Inter District Weightlifting Championship will be held at the Bhogeswari Phukani Indoor Stadium from October 16. Championship, to be organized by the Assam Weightlifting Association (AWA), will be held in Junior and Senior categories. Addressing a media conference the   Working President of the Assam Weightlifting Association Bhabajyoti Goswami said that around 200 participants from the different parts of the state are expected to take part in the tourment. There will be eight events in the men section while in the women section the number of events is seven.  Meanwhile Goswami today appealed to the state government to provide necessary infrastructure to his association so that the state weightlifter can at least do their practice on regular basis. “We have already produced several intertiol level weightlifters but it is unfortute that we don’t have even our own office. Promising weightlifters are facing problem to do their regular training because of non availability of proper training center. We are requesting new government to provide basic facilities to us as the game has good prospect in the state.”

The media briefing was also attended by General Secretary of AWA Basanta Das and its Vice President Ramen Das.
