IDBI Bank celebrates Farmers' Day

GUWAHATI, Dec 24: IDBI Bank Limited, Beltola Branch celebrated Farmers’ Day by arranging “Kisan Sangosthi” on Wednesday at Pantan High School, Chayygaon, Kamrup. Around 250 farmers from the local area, along with officials from NGOs participated in the event.

Rabhijeet Saikia, AGM and Branch Head of Beltola Branch welcomed the gathering and highlighted the various agri products offered by IDBI Bank. Ugen Tashi, General Mager, IDBI Bank, presided over the function which was also attended by Dr. Sarat Ch. th, District Veteriry Officer, Kamrup, Dr. Hemanta Deka, Block Veteriry Officer, Chayygaon and oether senior officers of various Government Departments.

In his address, Tashi stated that about 30% of IDBI Bank, which has 30% of its branches in rural areas, is focused on agricultural lending viz. fincing small and margil farmers, women SHG, etc. through various tailor-made products. He further added that IDBI Bank has appointed over 10,000 agents across India to provide door step banking services in the remote locations as a part of its Fincial Inclusion initiative. Two such agents are currently operating in Chayygaon. He informed the participating farmers that IDBI Bank provides hassle free loans to farmers at competitive interest rate and encouraged the farmers to avail the banking facilities and Agri products of IDBI Bank.

Sarat Ch Das, Secretary Grameen Sahara, Chayygaon explained the present challenges being faced by farmers and mentioned various steps being initiated / proposed to address these challenges and the role of the banks in providing timely credit. He appealed to all the farmers to work towards the economic development of the North Eastern region.

During the event, some of the farmers who were existing customers of IDBI Bank were felicitated by the Bank. Tashi and Dr. Sarat Ch. th, District Veteriry Officer, Kamrup, also addressed various queries of the farmers. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Hemanta Deka, Block Veteriry Officer, Chayygaon. This was stated in a press release.
