Idol makers not using any harmful materials: CPC

SHILLONG, Sept 28: The Central Puja Committee (CPC) on Wednesday stressed that the idol makers are not using any harmful materials while making idols. The reaction from the CPC came soon after the State Government had issued an advisory on the use of harmful materials on making idols during Durga puja. “The CPC even before the issuing of the order by the Forest department is celebrating the Durga puja in an environmental friendly manner,” CPC President ba Bhattacharjee told reporters at a press conference. “Our idol makers are not using thermocol or plaster of paris but they are using brick husk,” he said. He further said that the CPC employs its men to clear the River Wahumkhrah immediately   after the immersion to ensure that river is not affected at all.

“We request the concerned department   to come and take water sample from the ghat after the immersion,” he said, adding that the Government departments need to be more proactive as discharges of all sorts continue in Wahumkhrah despite his petition. Bhattacharjee informed that the CPC has made elaborative arrangements for the ensuing Durga puja celebrations from October 7 -11. The CPC is also set to the meet the officials of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited with a request to discontinue with the load shedding atleast for four days of the celebration.
