IGP(ER) visits Sivasagar, takes stock of law & order situation

JOYSAGAR, Aug 22: Inspector General of Assam Police, Eastern Range, Dr RP Mi visited Sivasagar district on Monday and took stock of the law-and-order situation of the district.

Dr Mi met with the top officials of Assam Police and held a meeting at the Circuit House. Sivasagar ASP Zakir Hussain elaborated the aim of the meeting while ASP (S) Debasish Sharma focused on the law-and-order scerio of Sivasagar.

Though the activities of various insurgent groups have been under control, other crimes have been on the rise in the district in recent times. Crimes against women have increased and murders have taken place. Besides, so many cases of misappropriation of government welfare funds and other fraudulent activities by some high profile persons have come to light in Sivasagar and many crimil cases have been registered in Sivasagar PS following various public complaints (FIRs). But Sivasagar Police have been uble to b those involved in such cases so far.

Members of various media houses described the latest law-and-order situation in Sivasagar  to Dr. RP Mi and sought his intervention to control such crimil activities in and around Sivasagar. Besides, representatives of various social organizations drew the attention of the officer towards rising anti-social activities in Sivasagar town and urged him to take tough action against all the illegal liquor sellers and those running gambling and other illegal business in the town openly. Meanwhile, media persons sought security of their life and property as many senior jourlists of Sivasagar had been threatened by anti-social elements in the past.
