IIM Shillong win iugural HSBC IB League

SHILLONG, Nov 24: A team from Indian Institute of Magement (IIM) Shillong emerged as the tiol winners of the premier season of HSBC IB League. SoumyaGuha, Ajay Dhameliya, AshishBaheti and Ramesh Jaiswal represented IIM Shillong alongside tiol filists IMT-Ghaziabad, MDI Gurgaon, IIFT-Delhi, IIM Kozhikode, SIBM and SCMHRD.

The HSBC Investment Banking (IB) League is a tiol B-school corporate competition organised by the investment banking arm of HSBC. The competition was directed by the Strategic Transaction group of HSBC branches located at Bangalore and Yangzhou (Chi) and aims to provide the B-School participants, a real world simulation of Investment Banking.

Ramesh Jaiswal on his return to the institute stated “It was a rigorous exercise but the preparations and presentations made us climb our learning curve and provided real time investment banking.”

SoumyaGuha stated “The fil round had several challenges for participants but it helped us understand the domain better in terms of its aspiratiol values and expectations.”

The competition involved 5 levels of submission, each requiring extensive research, strategic ideation, persuasive presentation, valuation and fincial modelling. Over 4 months, the team had to undergo various gruelling rounds, each tougher than the former.

Nine esteemed panellists were invited to judge the fil round which consisted of investment bankers from Chi, India and UK along with senior leaders of HSBC from different segments including Customer Relationship Magement, Asset Magement, Equity Research, and Alytics amongst others.

The fil round of the league involved extensive interaction with the real life investment bankers, understanding the work, expectations and strategies which they take to provide the deliverable in right time.
