Illegal digging, DC issues order

TURA, July 2: The deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills have come up with an order to curb the mece of illegal digging of PWD roads by  contractors and agencies without any clearance or NOC from the concerned authorities.

In a press statement to the media, Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi on Thursday said, “We have noted with a lot of concern that many agencies and contractors are digging up the sides of the PWD Roads without NOCs or clearances both from PWD(Roads) and  Tura Municipal Board causing vexation , inconvenience and annoyance to the commuters and small children and the elderly who walk on the roads . Sides of the roads are dug and left uncovered for prolonged periods and the locality  people have not forewarning or intimation when it will be filled up . There is risk of people getting hurt and traffic jams are frequent in such areas .”

He added that it forced the administration to come out with an order citing sections of the law and sections concerned to curb the mece and make clearances mandatory  for digging and laying of cables from both PWD Roads and Tura Municipal Board and to enforce accountability.
