Illegal liquor seized in Sivasagar

Sivasagar, May 22: The Excise department of Sivasagar subdivision and Sadar police of Sivasagar, jointly sped up its operations against illegal liquor in various parts of Sivasagar town and its adjacent areas. Ten people, including two women, were arrested by this joint operation team from various parts of Sivasagar town and adjacent areas in the last three days in connection with gambling and selling illegal liquor and 1,230 litres of foreign liquor as well as 28,500 litres of local liquor have been seized. Later a complaint was filed against them under Assam Excise Act. On the other hand, on May 13, the joint operation team during an operation in Amguri, was able to seized 40 cases of Aruchali liquor, 10,100 liters of hooch (sulai), 41 cases of foreign liquor, 16 hooch-keeping drums and other hooch-making utensils, when these were being smuggled to galand. A senior excise official said that the joint operation team maged to seized a large quantity of illegally stocked local and foreign liquor from various dhabas  which are situated on both sides of NH-37.
