Illegal sand mining rampant in Jhanji river

SIVASAGAR, April 11: Illegal mining of sand is going on ubated at different locations of Jhanji River. Ahom Se, Sivasagar district committee has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar urging him for action, but hundreds of trucks-loads of sand are still being lifted every day from rivers.
“We requested the Deputy Commissioner to take action against the people involved in the illegal mining at Tengabari, Padumoni and other areas of Jhanji River, but the officials of Amguri forest office are turning a blind eye to the illegal activity,” alleged Mantu Chutia, deputy commander-in-chief and Gaurav Dutta, assistant co-orditor of Ahom Se. They also stated that the organization would be compelled to launch a movement if the illegal activity was not stopped immediately.
