Illegal timber seized

DEMOW, August 7: Demow Police seized illegal sachi timbers being carried in a truck (NL 02 L 4881) on Saturday afternoon when they were checking vehicles in NH-37 road. The illegal logs are worth around Rs 15 lakh. According to sources, the illegal timber were brought from a village of Sepon Doba area and were being taken to Hojai. On Saturday afternoon in Demow Dehajan when the truck was parked in the NH-37 road, Demow Police seized the truck and took Abdul Majid, handyman of the truck to Demow Police Station. On Saturday midnight, Moinul Ali, the driver of the truck reached Demow Police Station. Bhaiti Das of Dergaon who was reportedly in the truck and was taken away by two motorcyclists, had not been found till the filing of this report. The Demow Police on Sunday had handed over the truck which was carrying the illegal sachi timber, along with the driver and handyman of the truck, to Sivasagar Forest Department. However, the police could not found the motorcyclists who had picked up Moinul Ali, the driver of the truck, and Bhaiti Das of Dergaon, who was in the truck.
