Illegal timber seized in Chirang

KOKRAJHAR, August 28: In a commendable job the 16th Bn. of the SSB stationed at Ranighuli in Kokrajhar carried out operation against the timber smuggling in Chirang district and seized timber laden truck and tractors on Thursday. The operation against timer smugglers was carried out under the command of AKC Singh, Commandant of 16th Bn. SSB based on the input received from reliable sources.

Sources from SSB said the SSB unit stationed at Gugubhasa in Chirang district seized one trolley wood from Auzar Bazar near Shantipur in Chirang district at the behest of Abhijit And of the SSB and arrested a smuggler Ranjit rzary (37) of Balapara of the same district. The illegal wood could have been cost of Rs. 1.5 lakh.

The second seizure was carried out by Nima rboo from Dadgiri camp of the SSB at Daosri in Chirang district. The SSB seized 25 pieces of sal logs loaded in 407 truck which could have been Rs. 16.5 lakhs. Two persons Abdul Miyan (26) of Bhariyat of Barpeta and Sheraful Haque (18) of Dokpara of Barpeta district were apprehended. The arrested timber smugglers were handed over to Runikhata Police Station.

In another case, one Bahadur rzary (30) of Madaphulbiri village was apprehended along with axe along with 60 big size logs from the area during the search operation carried out at the behest of AKC Singh. The SSB called upon the border people not to allow such illegal cutting and ferrying of trees and called upon all to come forward to stop this business. They also asked people to inform them immediately if someone carrying illegal timbers.
