ILP: Protest in Thoubal

FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL, April 19: There was a massive protest at Langmeidong in Thoubal district. This was organised by the women’s wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit system and the women activists of the nearby villages including Lai Mai. The representative of the women’s wing of the JCILPS Mrs L. Nganbi said that the women were protesting against the passing of very diulated bill on the ILP. The bill in the present form is not acceptable to the people. The bill which was recently passed in the Manipur Assembly is basically meant to protext and promote the migrants. There have been agitations in Manipur demanding the regularisation of the entry and settlement of the migrants in Manipur. The crafy chief minister agreed in principle. However he said that the government will come down heavily if the genuine Indians are harassed. Besides he could not agree with the demand not to permit the migrants to possess land in Manipur saying that being Indians they have every right to possess land. There have beenn agitations galore on this issue.
