Importance of family planning, birth spacing underlined

Dibrugarh, July 27: Coinciding with the World Population fortnight (July 11 to July 24) with slogan Hukhi Hom Kenekoi? (How to be Happy?), an intensive awareness programme with noble initiative of Momi Gogoi, ASHA felicitator, Himangshu Kalita, Multipurpose health worker,  Dhamabati Das and Mira Gogoi, ANM  was held on Wednesday at tungaon Lower Primary School under Barbaruah Block Primary Health Centre in Dibrugarh district.

Topics on family planning, breastfeeding, birth spacing, how to use condoms and contraceptive pills and persol hygiene were discussed during the programme and IEC materials on different health topics were distributed to the participants.

The target group were lactating mothers and pregnt women with an aim to create awareness and educate them to become healthy mothers and also to eble them to clarify their doubts to improve their health. The topics of discussion during the group discussion included importance of family planning, methods of family planning, right age of marriage, importance of population stabilization, inspiring others for male and female sterilization, importance of birth spacing, materl health, child health and immunization and misconceptions of family planning methods.

Momi Gogoi in her address, was of the opinion that it becomes difficult for the parents to give equal love and attention to each child in a big family and therefore affects the psychology of the children immensely. She reiterates that family planning had become an important key for a healthy and happy family which should focus on quality and quantity.
