Importance of poetry in life highlighted

Dibrugarh, March 23: The Information & Career Guidance Cell (ICGC) and the English Department of DHSK Commerce College in association with the Interl Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC) of the college celebrated World Poetry Day recently.  

The UNESCO has been celebrating March 21 as the World Poetry Day from 1999 onwards to promote the reading, writing publishing as well as teaching of poetry throughout the world stressing on giving ‘fresh recognition and impetus to tiol, regiol and intertiol poetry movements’

To mark the occasion, a poetry recitation session was organized with Principal Dr KM Bhagawati, in the chair. Faculty member, Department of English, Salt Brook Academy, Satyashikha Dowerah, attended the session as the chief guest and touched the heart of the audience by reciting poems including Hem Baruah’s popular poem Mamatar Chithi. Head and Associate Professor, Department of Commerce Dr. Bhupesh Bhagawati, graced the occasion as the special guest. In his speech, Dr Bhagawati explained the importance of poetry in one’s life and urged the gathering to feel the touch carried by poetry. He also recited his poem Shilalipi.

Bijoy Krish Doley and Kaustubhmoni th, both research scholars in the Department of Assamese attended the programme as guest poet and guest reciter respectively.

Renowned youth poet Kumar bajyoti, faculty members of the college Anita Baruwa and Luku Morang, recited their poems in the session. Other faculty members Dr Chitra Roy and Jecob Konwar also recited poems of other poets in the session.

Shilpa Sahu, Mridul Gogoi as well as Priyanka Kangsa Bonik , amongst others,  recited their self-composed poems in the session. Dipshree Gohain, Ri Adak, Indumoni Chetia also recited poems of different poets in the programme.

Dr KM Bhagawati in his presidential speech highlighted how poetry could refresh one’s life by bringing the truth and beauty of life and ture into our heart. Head, Department of English, Dr. Ipsita Bhattacharya, and coorditor of the programme, Luku Morang, anchored the session. Earlier, Jecob Konwar welcomed the audience while faculty member Tulika Muttack offered  the vote of thanks.
