'Improve efficiency to reduce consumers' inconveniences'

Itagar, April 25: Power & NCER Minister Tamiyo Taga on Monday called for improving the efficiency of the department and its manpower saying that even a moment’s failure in power supply can cause a lot of distress and inconvenience to the people.

Reviewing the activities of the department during its annual review meeting in presence of Power Parliamentary Secretary Thangwang Wangham here, the minister stressed on giving due importance to the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) and Electrical Inspectorate branches of the department by creating posts and employing trained personnel who could play a vital role in regulating and monitoring the power grids in the state level, an official report informed. Taga said that it is imperative that checks should be conducted so that the achievements on paper of rural electrification in villages is reflected in reality as people had pinned their hopes on the department.

The minister also appreciated the success of the pre-paid meter system and suggested to replicate it throughout the state to improve billing efficiency and increase in revenue collection.

Taga summed up that the department was facing problems like creation of divisions and subdivisions without creating posts for supporting ministerial staff, shortage of manpower like electricians and casual staff, lack of accommodation for the department personnel and further encouraged the engineers to work hard to raise the profile of the department and serve the people. Wangham informed that the department was vital in the government’s thrust towards e governce and shift to paperless office and so the engineers had to energise themselves and work hard to support this dream of the government by providing power supply to even the most interior, rural, insurgency infested and border villages. He also appealed all to create a sense of belonging, oneness and improve the work culture in the department and serve the masses.

Chief Engineer Anong Perme in his welcome address said that the department dealt with a consumable commodity, which was like no other as its production and consumption is instant and it cannot be stored. So the department had to have the right infrastructure for the equitable distribution of electricity to reach the masses and satisfy the needs of all. Presentations were given on IPDS, R-APDRP and revenue matters titled 24 X 7: Power For All, on the State Power Scerio, on Comprehensive Scheme & Transmission Plan and DDUGJY. Area wise activities and issues were also highlighted for the different circles by the superintending engineers.

Chief engineers, superintending engineers, executive engineers and officers of the department were also present on the occasion, the report added.
