Improve Koloriang hospital: AKKDSU

From Our Correspondent

Itagar, May 5: The All Kurung Kumey District Students’ Union (AKKDSU) has demanded immediate posting of medical staff, machinery and instruments at Kurung Kumey’s Koloriang District Hospital that allegedly has not been functioning properly since establishment.

AKKDSU president Bengia Anthony said the hospital, the only health delivery institution in Kurung Kumey district, lacks basic facilities besides the absence of specialist doctors. “People in the district are suffering because of the condition of the hospital, and they are forced to travel 270km for treatment in the state capital,” he told reporters at Aruchal Press Club here.

The AKKDSU accused PHED minister and local MLA Bamang Felix and Education parliamentary secretary Pani Taram of turning a blind eye to the problems of the people in Kurung Kumey district despite reminders. “The duo could have apprised the chief minister, health minister and the departments concerned of the problems for the hospital to get doctors, medical staff and equipment,” Bengia said. AKKDSU also said there are six community health centres and primary health centres in the district functioning without a specialist doctor, adding that the director of health services has not responded to letters from the Koloriang district medical officer for appointing doctors.

Appealing Health and Family Welfare minister Jomde Ke to provide doctors, staff and equipment, AKKDSU requested him and the DHS to visit the Koloriang hospital and assess the ground reality in the greater interest of the people of Kurung Kumey district.
