In a new Crackdown,Twitter tightens rules on Developers: 143000 Apps Removed

Guwahati: Twitter had removed more than 143,000 application between the month of April and June citing in a blog post “it does not tolerate the use of our Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to produce spam, manipulate conversations, or invade the privacy of people using Twitter.” which violated its policies, the company has announced, saying it is further investing in building improved tools and processes to stop malicious apps faster.

Twitter Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) had introduced a new way to all the developers to request access from its part of clean-up process and the micro-blogging platform.

As per the report published, the company suspended more than 70 million fake accounts in the month of May and June in a massive drive to clear out bots and trolls on the platform. The Application currently has nearly 330 million monthly active users.

Rob Johnson Twitter's senior product management director said "We're committed to providing access to our platform to developers whose products and services make Twitter a better place."

Yoel Roth and Rob Johnson wrote from Twitter blog post “These changes enable us to have more visibility and control over how developers use our platform and public data from the people using our service,”

Twitter informed, “We’re also limiting the default number of apps you may have registered by a single developer account to 10. Developers who need to register more than 10 apps can request permission using the API Policy support form.”

To create tweets, retweets, likes, follows, or direct messages Twitter will add new default app-level rate limits that will apply to all requests from September 10. By default, an application across all of its users will be limited to 300 tweets and retweets per three hours, 1,000 likes per 24 hours,1,000 follows per 24 hours and 15,000 Direct Messages per 24 hours.

To report suspected violations of its platform policies Twitter also introduced a new option for all the people .“You can use the ‘Report a bad app’ option in our Help Center, which will report the uses of our Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) which produce spam, invade user privacy, or otherwise violate our rules,” Company added.
