Special Correspondent

Silchar: Dana Le, founder and chief executive officer of American based NGO ‘Seeds of love worldwide’, and Tony Walker, board member, are in Barak Valley in search of talented boys whom they want to educate and make them perfect ‘man’ to be worthy of the society and the world community in general. In course of their exploration, they will deliver oration on ‘Opportunities and challenges of managing US based non profit programme in India’ at the conference hall of the premier Gurucharan College here on Wednesday.

This Indo-US lecture programme on the specified subject has been organized by the institutional Biotech Hub and Bioinformatics Centre and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Gurucharan College in coordination with Sanathan Unnayan Sangstha. It is sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi. The subject or the theme of the oration has generated curiosity in the academics of the College and the NGOs who expect it to be entertaining and informative. It is expected that the NGOs would get definite feedback about the management of NGOs in a better and scientific manner.

Apart from their engagement in academic discussion, Dana Le and Tony Walker take the time in searching of talents. In fact, this hunt for talent is not only confined to this valley but to other parts of the country and foreign states particularly Russia and Africa among others. According to Dana Le, the response in 5 countries, the centres of their concentration, has been quite encouraging. Before coming down to the valley, they visited the Chakma dominated Chatlang area of Mizoram from there they selected and picked up 7 students, both boys and girls.

Their objective is not only to chose and pick up but also think of their better education and upbringing. They always stand for meritorious and poor students and help them in all possible manner. The Chakma students who live far from the madding crowd and the light of better education and healthcare would be taken care of. The Chakmas have been admitted in the local Aryan Junior College and put up in separate hostels for boys and girls. They are looking after students of their liking, the main consideration being quality and good culture, and arrange for their education in a congenial atmosphere.

During their stay here, they will move around the rural and backward belts of this valley. Dana Le and Tony Walker revealed they want to collect another 20 students with brilliant results in their examinations. Moreover, the criteria of selection is from scheduled caste community. After proper education here, these students under their guidance will be taken to America. They plan to move across India with their basic objective of exploring the best among the students. There can be no conjecture about their hunt for talent. But, the basic question crops up about the future of these boys and girls. Will they be subject to proselytisation? This is the crux of the question.
