Incessant rains cause artificial flood at Gaurisagar

A CORRESPONDENT

GAURISAGAR, June 29: Due to incessant rains in the last couple of days, several areas have been submerged including the entrance of link road of NH-37, several houses and shops of the residents of Gaurisaagar Kumar village, Namdangia Bangali Goan under Jakaichuk mouza of Sivasagar revenue circle. The heavy downpour has flooded the approach roads to SBI Gaurisagar.

Namdongia water supply project, Gaurisagar High School and more than 60 households still reel under flood water. Vehicles, pedestrians and students are facing a tough time in wading through flood water. A good number of NH-37 roadside shops under Sivasagar revenue circle have been badly hit by the flood, causing some businessmen to shift their business to other locations.

While the local residents of Gaurisagar Namdangia Water Supply road have been demanding of the local MLA as well as district administration to construct the road, nothing has materialized so far. Heavy rains triggering water logging is a common phenomenon at Gaurisagar and it is because the only sewage system of the historic Rupahijan is illegally being grabbed by some residents. The residents are of the view that till the sewage system is properly taken care of, the denizens of Gaurisagar will continue to face the problem of water logging. Ironically, instead of senior and responsible officials, a few mandals under Sivasagar Revenue Circle visited the site to take stock of the situation.
