Independence Day celebrated at Guwahati Refinery

GUWAHATI, Aug 16: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at Guwahati Refinery with due fervour and enthusiasm through a series of programmes at the Sector-II playground of Guwahati Refinery Township. The chief guest of the programme, Jogen Barpujari, Executive Director, Guwahati Refinery, hoisted the tricolour amidst the presence of a large number of employees, members from CISF & Home Guards, school children and people from greater Noonmati area, a press release stated.

In his speech, Barpujari paid homage to the freedom fighters of the Indian freedom struggle and recalled their contributions and sacrifices while reiterating IndianOil’s contribution towards nation building, he appealed all the employees for constant quest for excellence and greatness through creativity and innovation.

He also congratulated all IOCL employees for their dedication and commitment which has contributed in IndianOil’s ability to achieve the no 1 position amongst the Indian companies featured in the Fortune’s “Global 500” list for the year 2018. He also shared IndianOil’s future business plans to the employees along with expansion plans of Guwahati Refinery. Appreciating commitments of the employees for the Refinery’s commendable performance in the last year, he further shared that preliminary feasibility studies are in progress for expansion of current capacity of 1 MMTPA to 1.7 MMTPA.

Barpujari also handed over the keys of a TATA winger vehicle to the authorities of Sri Sankardev Netralaya. The van has been donated by Guwahati Refinery as a part of its CSR initiatives and will be used as utility vehicle for facilitating community ophthalmology services by the organisation.

The Independence Day celebration programme saw a number of vibrant cultural performances with patriotic flavour being performed by school children, children from NGOs Snehalaya, and Shishu Mangal Kendra, and employees of Guwahati Refinery. On the occasion, Long Service Awards were presented to 46 nos. of employees who have completed 15 years and 30 years of services in the corporation. Members of CISF, Home Guards and school children of Guwahati Refinery High School, Bhabanipur High School and KV, IOCL also took part in the Independence Day programme. Trade apprentices performed a skit while members of CISF amazed the viewers with a Bihu dance performance. Awards for the competitions organised on the occasion of Swachhta Pakhwada were handed over to the winners. All the employees performed ‘O Mor Apunar Desh’ to end the day-long programme. Tricolour balloons were released into the sky as a symbol of freedom, peace and prosperity.

The programme was attended by other senior officials from Guwahati Refinery, Assistant Commandant-CISF, members from collectives, employees and their family members. As part of the celebration programme, Mrs. Chandana Barpujari along with other senior ladies distributed fruits and sweets among the patients of Guwahati Refinery Hospital.
