Independent MDCs form United Democratic Alliance

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Jan 3: With an aim to create unity amongst Independent MDCs in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) eight MDCs on Tuesday officially announced the formation of an alliance christened as United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The decision was taken at a meeting held on January 2, this year with Latiplang Kharkongor as Chairman, Matidor Lyngdoh general secretary, Grace Kharpuri, LG Nongseij, Morning Star Mawsor, Victor Rani, Hadrian Lyngdoh and James Sylliang. Speaking to reporters, newly elected Chairman of the alliance, Kharkongor said, “We have formed this alliance with an aim to have unity amongst the Independent MDCs so that all MDCs will be under one roof. The alliance is also an attempt to ward off any efforts from other MDCs to disruptor topple the EC led by KHADC CEM P N Syiem.” He informed that the alliance has also taken a decision to continue giving their support to the PDF coalition. Admitting that there are attempts to topple the EC led by P N Syiem, Kharkongor, however, said that all attempts are futile as the HSPDP MDCs and the newly elected NCP MDC from Laban has extended their support to the PDF which clearly shows that the EC is still secure.

He has, however, rubbished any speculations that the UDP is attempting to topple the current EC at the KHADC. Interestingly he divulged that there have been fillers sent from the Congress towards the Independent MDCs to topple the current EC led by Syiem. “The attempt of the congress will continue, however, we as independent MDCs still have faith in the leadership of the KHADC CEM P N Syiem so their efforts are futile,” he said.
