India face shock defeat

GUWAHATI, Feb 6: Hosts and hot favourite India faced a shock defeat against minor Sri Lanka by a solitary goal in the opening match of Group A of the football event of the 12th South Asia Games today here at SAI Sports Complex.

Mid fielder MCM Rifs scored a stunning free kick in 13th minute to give the island country unexpected victory. India wasted many opportunities right from the beginning but could not break the deadlock. Local hero Halicharan rzary was in starting eleven and he also missed chanced. One of his shot was rebounded after hitting the post in 44 th minute. Another State star Vinit Rai played in mid field in entire match.

India will face Maldives on February 10 at 2 pm. Nepal will take the challenge of Bhutan in Group B tomorrow.
