India fail to break hockey jinx

GUWAHATI, Jan 12: India failed to break the jinx in mens hockey at the South Asian Games as Pakistan retained the gold defeating host in a thrilling encounter at the Mohammad Tayabulla Hockey stadium here today. Pakistan won the clash by 1-0 and Owais-ur-Rehman scored the decisive goal of the match in the dying moments of the first half.

There was excitement ahead of the much-awaited match with the near capacity crowd cheering the home players, but it did not work as except for a short spell in the second half Pakistan domited most part of the game.

This is Pakistan’s third title on the trot in the South Asian Games. Pakistan had beaten India in both the 2006 and 2010 fils in Colombo and Dhaka respectively.

Earlier Bangladesh bagged bronze medal  beating Sri Lanka by 4-1.
