India go down to Pakistan

Women continue winning run

Guwahati, Feb 8: Hosts India went down fighting to Pakistan 1-2 in their 12th South Asian Games 2016 hockey pool league match at Maula M tayabullah Hockey Stadium in Guwahati on Monday evening.

The visitors found the net for both the goals through Qadir Md Arslan in the 11th and 37th minutes. Mandeep Antil scored the only goal for India in the 43rd minute.

Prior to the match, Assam Chief Minister Shri Tarun Gogoi was introduced with the players of both the teams. Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports (Independent charge) Shri Sarbanda Sonowal, Assam sports minister Shri Ajit Singh and Assam Chief Secretary Shri VK Pipersenia also attended the match.

Earlier in the day, India defeated Sri Lanka 12-1 in a women’s league match to seal a fil berth for themselves.

India now leads the points table with six points and will take on the winner of tomorrow's round robin match between Sri Lanka and Nepal in the gold medal match on February 11.

In another men’s league match of the day, Bangladesh got the better of Sri Lanka 2-0.

India continued to top the medals tally for the fourth straight day with a total of 79 medals, including 53 gold, 20 silver and six bronze. Sri Lanka were placed second with 11 gold, 27 silver and 23 bronze medals, while Pakistan stood third in the tally with four gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals.

Bhutan and the Maldives, whose tally were barren till the third day, opened their accounts on Monday. While Bhutan tallied a silver and bronze, the Maldives recorded a bronze.
