India grabs 8 medals on fil day

New Delhi, Sep 16: India won eight medals on Friday to finish second in the overall standings with a total 16 medals -- 5 gold, four silver and seven bronze -- at the Track Asia Cup cycling competitions here. Hongkong topped the overall medals list with 18 medals -- 11 gold, four silver and three bronze.

India's medals count on Friday included two gold, two silver and four bronzes at the Cycling Velodrome in the Indira Gandhi Stadium here.

India's star performer was Deborah who won three gold and a silver.

In her fil sprint event on Friday, she grabbed gold with timings of 12.576 seconds and 12.493 in the first and second rounds, respectively.

She beat Zhaojuan of Hong Kong, who went on to take the silver medal, clocking 12.820 and 12.734 in both the rounds, respectively.

The third position was awarded to Fari Shawati of Malaysia with a timing of 12.552 and 12.342 in the rounds.

India bagged the first two positions in the women's junior sprint fil. ya Rajesh won gold clocking 12.658 and 12.865 in the first and the second rounds, respectively.

Anu Chutia grabbed silver, with a timing of 12.764 and 13.178 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Hoi Wah of Hong Kong was third with timings of 13.644 and 13.300.

In the team elite women's team pursuit, India bagged bronze. IANS
