India, Nepal arrive for South Asian Badminton

GUWAHATI, Nov 28: India and Nepal team arrived in the city today to participate in the forthcoming U-19 South Asian Regiol Badminton Championship. Another team Bhutan will reach Guwahati tomorrow.

Altogether six teams will participate in the competition which will kick off on December 4 at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor stadium. The remaining participating teams are: Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Maldives

The secretary of the Assam Badminton Association Omar Rashid today informed The Sentinel that before the start of the competition a high level coaching camp will be held at the same venue and it will be attended by all the players of the participating teams. Two intertiol coaches along with the chief coach of Indian Junior Badminton team Sanju Mira will impart training in the camp which will begin on Wednesday.

Rashid also added:  “The iugural function of the South Asian Regiol Badminton Championship has been rescheduled and it will now be held on December 4.” Earlier it was scheduled to begin tomorrow. There will be altogether three categories in the five-day meet and these are: Open event Singles (both boys and girls), Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
