India observes a glorious 70th Republic Day amid tight security

Guwahati: As India celebrates the 70^th Republic Day, the country witnessed a vibrant celebration of the glorious day in the national capital on Saturday. The parade at Rajpath, New Delhi showcased the assimilation of vivid cultures, colours, traditions and amazing integrity among the people of the nation. The parades done by the armed forces contingent too was a must watch moment of the day with the Assam Rifles all-women contingent by taking part in the Republic Day parade for the first time ever and creating history for the times to come.

In addition to being present at the Rajpath parade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to mention the celebrations observed in New Delhi.

A total of 22 tableaux could be seen rolling in the Rajpath showcasing the life and journey of Mahatma Gandhi marking the 150^th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation and this was a remarkable moment of the day.

In addition to these, 16 tableaux representing other states and union territories of the country and 6 tableaux from the departments of agriculture, power, drinking water and sanitation, Indian Railways, CISF and CPWD were displayed in the parade.

The Assam tableaux, when passed through the Rajpath, echoed the voice of Bhupen Hazarika while also depicting the handloom of the state inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. Notably, the famous singer from Assam has been conferred with the Bharat Ratna award posthumously a day before this.

Other states of the country too made sure that the special day is celebrated in a grand way. The three states of Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh joined together to participate in the celebrations amid tight security arrangements. The states observed the parades in the district headquarters of the two states and their joint capital Chandigarh.

On the other hand, the Mizoram government observed a never-before Republic Day addressing an empty ground as the citizens of the state has declared to boycott the celebrations. As an umbrella organization has called for boycotting the Republic Day in protest against the Citizenship Bill, the parade ground in Mizoram remained almost empty on the day.

However, in Kashmir, the mobile internet services in order to take up the precautionary measure on the occasion of Republic Day. The mobile phone services remained functioned as usual.

Other than PM Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind, there was the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa attending the event as a Chief Guest.
