Indian Army Soldier Martyred in Kupwara, Militants Escape

Srinagar: A soldier of the Indian Army was killed in a counter-insurgency operation in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, a fierce gunfight along with exchange of heavy gunfire broke out in Kupwara on Friday morning between Indian Army Jawans and the militants.

A police officer informed the media that the militants have managed to escape and a combing operation is on in the area.

It may be mentioned that the Indian Army officials after receiving specific inputs from the Intelligence Bureau, initiated their counter-insurgency operations after cordoning off the areas around Kachlu village in Kralgund.

When the Indian Army Soldiers tightened the cordon and moved deeper into the area, the militants who were hiding inside suddenly opened fire leading to a fierce gunfight the encounter in which the soldier was injured.

He succumbed to injuries in the hospital a hours later.
