Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay students take out rally to protest CAB

Guwahati: At a time when the students of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati are showing their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, the students of IIT Bombay too are joining their hands by carrying out a protest rally at their institute on Saturday.

Amid the massive protest against the Bill in and around the state, Assamese and other northeastern people living in other Indian states too are expressing their protest against the Bill.

The IIT Bombay students, particularly the ones who hail from the North East, showed their pretests by taking out a march at the IIT campus. The students used placards to demonstrate their demand wherein they stated their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment Bill) 2016. As expressed by the students, they wants the bill to be withdrawn ads the Bill, once implemented would nullify Assam Accord and National Register of Citizens of India (NRC).

The IIT Bombay students’ body, Northeast Collective (NEC) stated that they are displeased at the blind eye of the government towards the democratic voices and protests. As a democratic nation, it is the right of every citizen to express his view and at the same time, it is the duty of the government to pay heed to the constitutional secularism and democratic value of the country. The student body, thus, appeals to every conscious citizen of India to stand against this Bill.

However, the student body warned the government that if the government do not pay heed to their demands and implement the bill, then it will have to be ready to face the backlash.

Before this, the IIT (G) students chose to mark their protest against the CAB by tying a piece of black cloth to their mouths. The students have, thus, demonstrated a silent protest against the CAB. The students taking part in the protest are the ones hailing from the northeast and this will certainly hold a picture of the unity and integrity amongst the people of Assam towards any threat to its citizens to the students coming from other parts of the country. The students demonstrated their protest at the main entrance until late hours.
