Indian Railways to introduce massage services for its passengers during the train journeys

Guwahati: Indian Railways has something good to share with its passengers as it is to make long journey experiences more enjoyable and rejuvenating for them. As it is known to all that the train journeys are often very lengthy and tiring leaving nothing to be done for its passengers, the Indian railways have now given a good reason for its passengers to cheer up. Just by paying Rs 100 one can now avail a massage service right while travelling by train.

Indian railways have initiated this facility in 39 trains that run from Indore railway station. The Ratlam division of the national transporter has issued a letter of authorization for provision according to which head and foot massage facilities will be provided to the passengers in 39 trains. The Railways authority has taken this step as a move to attract more passengers towards travelling by train.

As stated by a railway official, "This is being done on a pilot basis. The contract for providing such facility to passengers has been done for the first time in Indian Railways."

The official also states that the proposal will fetch Rs 200,000 in a year and the earning to be received from it is deemed to be Rs 90 lakh, as this service will increase approximately 20,000 passengers. It is expected that the service will commence in the next 15-20 days. This has also been mentioned by him that there will be no massage services between 10 pm to 6 am.

Notably, it was just last year when it was suggested by a parliamentary committee that the railways should give priority to projects that are remunerative and commercially viable.

The massage scheme will be something like this:

In the Gold category, the massage will be done with non-sticky oil at a cost of Rs 100

In the Diamond category, oil/cream/wipes will be used at a cost of Rs 200 and

In the platinum category argan oil/cream/wipes will be used for Rs 300.

The duration of the service will last for a duration of 15-20 minutes to each passenger.
