The winning distance of Neeraj Chopra was, however, less than 86.47 m he had achieved in Gold Coast at Common Wealth Game in Australia this year. He had refined on his season's best with an effort of 86.47 m to become the country's first Javelin-thrower to win a Common Wealth Games (CWG).

Chopra first set his junior World record in 2016. He won Gold at the World Under-20 Athletic Championship with a throw of 86.48 m. He, however, failed to qualify for the final at Rio Olympic same year.

Neeraj Chopra's next big test will be at the Asian Game in Indonesia which is going to be held next month.
