Indigenous sports festival to be held in BTC districts

KOKRAJHAR, April 3: The District Sports Offices (DSOs) of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri districts of BTC have decided to organize the indigenous/traditiol sports festival in association with Bodoland Indigenous Games Association (BIGA) in their respective districts on April 6 with a day-long programme.

DSO of Kokrajhar, Jajbati Basumatary, who is also the Council Head of the Department (CHD), Sports and Youth Welfare, BTC, said as per the directive of the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam, the four BTC districts had decided to organize the indigenous sports festival in their respective districts from April 4- April 6 to preserve and promote traditiol games in Assam. She said the respective district officers would organize the traditiol game festival involving the DC, local MLA or minister to focus on the traditiol games among the people and will also organize semir on the importance of indigenous games.

The Subdivisiol Sports Officer, Kokrajhar, Pradip Kr. rzary informed that the DSO, Kokrajhar had fixed the date of traditiol sports festival on April 6 at Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) field where five different indigenous game events would be demonstrated as per order of the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam. He said the Executive Member of Sports and Youth Welfare, BTC, Doneswar Goyary had given his consent to be the chief guest while the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of the district had also been invited to the event. He also said the festival would be organized in association with the BIGA, Kokrajhar. 

The Assistant Subdivisiol Sports Officer, Chirang, Guno Shangkar Wary said Chirang district had also fixed April 6 as the date for indigenous game festival in Chirang while DSO, Baksa district, ba Kr. Basumatary informed that the district would organize the festival on the same date at Mushalpur. Similarly, the traditiol sports festival will also be held on April 6 in Udalguri.
