From our Staff Correspondent

Dibrugarh, February 22: Indigo Airlines, a leading carrier of the country operating with Airbus 320 aircraft, is planning to introduce a non-stop direct flight from Dibrugarh to New Delhi to cater to the needs of the ever-increasing number of passengers to and from this premier urban centre of eastern India.

Although, the source in the airline disclosing this information did not specify the time frame for introduction of this flight, it is gathered that the flight will be introduced in the second half of the current calendar year. This flight will be the third in a row from Dibrugarh by Indigo Airlines.

Indigo Airlines is already operating a non-stop direct flight from New Delhi to Dibrugarh, which hops at Guwahati in the return journey. Meanwhile, air passengers using Dibrugarh airport have appealed to the airlines to introduce morning and evening flights from here for the convenience of business and corporate travelers and also patients and students, which will save a valuable day for everyone.

Public organizations like the Dibrugarh garik Sangha, the Eastern Assam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dibrugarh Bar Association and other social cultural organizations have strongly urged the Air India magement for operating daily and direct flights in the Kolkata to Dibrugarh and Dibrugarh to Kolkata sectors, instead of clubbing its flights connecting Dimapur and Dibrugarh. Noted tea planter, educationist and sports organizer Prof. Dhirendra th Baruah said, “Firstly, it is a tiol loss as there is hardly any passenger seen availing a seat either way from Dibrugarh to Dimapur and vice versa in Air India. Secondly, it is gross inconvenience for passengers of both Dibrugarh and Dimapur airports.”
